Trans Awareness Week Concert
Trans Awareness Week is between the 13th-19th of November.
For that reason, the Reykjavík City Library in Úlfarsárdalur will have a special program throughout the week. The highlight of the week will be a concert where two bands will perform, Ateria and Systur.
The band Systur needs no introduction, but their song „Með hækkandi sól“ was Iceland's contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest earlier this year. The band consists of sisters Sigga, Beta og Elín and their brother Eyþór.
Born into a very musical family, the sisters have been singing and making music together since before they could talk. Their mesmerizing voices blend into harmonies that are both warm and magical. They have fascinated Icelanders for a while with their music composed under the auspices of the band Sísí Ey.
Systur strongly believe in the healing power of music and the importance of supporting those who are marginalized in society, but in recent years they have put a lot of emphasis on the rights of trans children.
Ateria is a genre defying teenage trio based in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is comprised of Ása, her
sibling Eir and their cousin Fönn. The band won Músíktilraunir, The Icelandic Music
Experiments, in the spring of 2018 and has since been playing at various festivals and concerts,
such as Iceland Airwaves, Secret Solstice and more.
In October 2021 they released their first album, and_vari. All the band members have studied classical music for many years and entwine different musical styles and genres into their songs. The name ‘Ateria’ is taken from the latin name of the eider duck, Somateria mollissima, which is a common interest of all the band members.
