How do self-produced artists create hits at home? What software do they use to compose, record and mix their own self-produced releases? In this workshop for ages 13-16 we’ll dive into the advanced processes and tools that you can use to write and record, lay down an electronic beat, compose a catchy melody or a punchy bassline.

This will be a two week project-based workshop with the goal of helping participants finish a piece, song or video to be presented to fellow participants at the end.

In the first week we’ll introduce a wide variety of tools and techniques from several professional artists in the music scene, gaining experience in a broad selection of the studio-grade software available at the downtown Grófin Makerspace. At the end of week one, participants will have begun to develop their own style and decide which tools they want to focus on for their individual project.

During week two, participants will work independently at the Makerspace on their projects with light assistance, with a final listening party Friday.

Participants will work independently on their music and receive assistance from Auður and other musicians that we will publish later.

There is room for ten participants, including up to four who wish to use a Makerspace iMac. Those who bring a laptop can run almost all of the software for free or for an extended trial period on their own device.  However, everyone will get a chance to try out Logic Pro X for free on the Makerspace iMacs.
