Exhibition | Fields of Ice

Thursday February 4th 2021 - Monday February 15th 2021

The exhibition Fields of Ice is a part of the LÁN (Artistic Appeal to Nature) project that is a part of Reykjavik's City Department of Education and Youth educational policy and also a part of The Winter Lights Festival.

The children made the art under the guidance of Jelena Bjeletik in the kindergarten Sæborg and Magnús Valur Pálson in the primary school Melaskóli. As part of their conceptual work the children met the geophysist Magnús Tumi Guðmundsson, the artists Anna Líndal and Hrafnkell Sigurðsson. They also participated in workshops with the artist María Sjöfn Dupuis Davidsdóttir and project manager Ásthildur Jónsdóttir at the library. While working on their art pieces the children were encouraged to think in a critical way about their existance and how connected they are to the nature.

The LÁN (Artistic Appeal to Nature) wants the participants to have open minds and hearts while increasing their understanding of the world around us.  With the magic tools of art they: distinguish, understand and read the messages from their own environment.

The guests of the exhibition are encouraged to participate by browsing through books about glaciers and express themselves through words or art- their ideas about glaciers and their role in the world
