Recently, it was announced which novels and authors had earned a place on the longlist for the 2026 Booker Prize. The following 13 novels have been longlisted this year:
The authors on this year’s longlist represent seven countries and three continents, although the majority are from the United Kingdom. Former Booker Prize winners Marlon James and Douglas Stuart are among those shortlisted, while Elisabeth Strout has previously been shortlisted for the award. Ten of this year’s authors and books have been nominated for the first time, including three debut novels.
The Booker Prize has been awarded for 55 years and has helped bring attention to and elevate numerous literary works over the decades. This year’s longlisted titles were selected from 163 eligible novels written in English and published in the United Kingdom or Ireland between 1 October 2025 and 30 September 2026.
The shortlist for the 2026 Booker Prize will be announced by this year’s judging panel during a live broadcast from the Southbank Centre in London on 22 September.
The winner of the 2026 Booker Prize will be revealed on 9 November at a ceremony in London. The winning author will receive a £50,000 prize, while each of the other shortlisted authors will receive £2,500.
