Stofan | An interview with Patrycja
We had a chat with Patrycja Bączek, creative movement facilitator and first participant in our second year of Stofan - A Public Living Room.
Her version of Stofan will open on October 4th on the 5th floor of the Reykjavik City Library Grófin. All ages welcome so come and dance with us!
1. Which spot did you choose for your Stofa?
One day I sat on the sofa next to the vinyl player and vinyl records on the 5th floor. I didn't like the feeling that I can play music but at the same time the space is inviting only to sit or walk. I thought to myself: Where the music must be the dance! Wonderful big windows visible from this spot draw the natural line for me where it ends.
2. What will you do in it?
I create a library dancing starting spot hoping that the movement evoked in the body here naturally extends to different parts of the library. I invite guests to follow the impulses coming from simple things like moving feet or fingers to the melody from the vinyl in the background and see where it takes them if they develop what is naturally starting. Or if tired lie down and rest in the cozy corner and allow the body to exhale aloud, stretch without shame - to say a few. Perhaps in the movement, guests meet each other also moving and some sort of connection might be established.
3. What kind of feelings would you like to give users?
The feeling of being comfortable in their bodies, that the space is for you, not you for the space.
4. If you could change one thing about the library and bring a new rule in, what would it be?
I dream about the library where we can breathe, exhale, and groan out loud when it's needed. To see it as perfectly normal as it is not giving a sound seen right now.
5. What does comfort mean to you and how do you plan on translating it beyond language during your happening?
It is how I feel in the body including all my senses. Warm lights, soft materials, the smell, sound, and the possibility to change the position of my body when it's needed to - bring me closer to comfort. I rearrange the space a little bit, add a few carpets and pillows, dim the lights and invite all to join in my dancing/movement exploration.
