Jólabókakaffi á degi íslenskrar tungu

Sunday November 16th 2025

The Christmas Book Flood is fast approaching, with flashing weather warnings across the entire color scale. In celebration of the Day of the Icelandic Language, we’ve reeled four authors out of the literary wave to introduce their latest books. Andri Snær Magnason, Dagur Hjartarson, Fríða Ísberg, and Lilja Sigurðardóttir will appear in Kringlan to give readings while guests warm themselves with cozy drinks.

On the Icelandic language day four authors will read from their new books in Icelandic: Andri Snær Magnason, Dagur Hjartarson, Fríða Ísberg, and Lilja Sigurðardóttir

Andri Snær Magnason is a three-time recipient of the Icelandic Literary Prize and is now publishing his first work of fiction in several years, the novella Jötunsteinn. Dagur Hjartarson has received both the Tómas Guðmundsson Literature Award and the Jón úr Vör Poetry Prize for his poetry collections and now presents his fifth novel, Frumbyrjur. Fríða Ísberg’s second novel, Huldukonan, will be released before Christmas; her previous book, Merking, was a breakthrough success that earned her the Per Olov Enquist Literary Prize, awarded to young and promising European authors. Lilja Sigurðardóttir has twice won the Icelandic Crime Fiction Award, Blóðdropinn, as well as Gríman for her play Stóru börnin. With her latest novel, Alfa, she turns her gaze toward the future

Everyone is welcome but the readings will be in Icelandic.
