Opening | Viltu vera memm?

Saturday December 6th 2025

The sisters Tinna Þorvalds Önnudóttir, an illustrator, and Sóley Þorvaldsdóttir, a photographer, are setting up an exhibition in Gerðurberg based on their childhood in the Fella- og Bakka neighborhoods of Breiðholt in the 1980s and 1990s. They reflect on what it means to belong somewhere. You can take the girl out of Breiðholt, but can you take Breiðholt out of the girl? What is it like when she returns and discovers that she is at once a native and a stranger? She carries memories from this place, but what are memories, if not stories told through the filter of the present moment? The drawing is Tinna's medium and the photograph is Sóley's and the exhibition interweaves these distinct yet related forms of expression, bringing together their different perspectives. In some works, photographs and drawings may even merge, uniting the sisters’ shared experiences and visions.

Sóley Þorvaldsdóttir is an artist who lives and works in Reykjavík. She graduated in creative photography from the Icelandic School of Photography in 2023. In her works, Sóley deals with space and the narratives within it. In them, the tendency towards historical documentation on the one hand and poetic narration on the other hand is encountered. Time often becomes a topic of discussion in her works, and nostalgia sometimes arises. She draws inspiration from many sources, but primarily in her own everyday environment.

Tinna Þorvalds Önnudóttir is a visual artist, singer and actress, but no matter what means of expression she uses, it is always movement that she seeks - movement and a sense of playfulness, which bring life to storytelling. Her different artistic disciplines support one another, adding new dimensions to her work, whether in an obvious or more subtle way. As a visual artist, she works mainly with watercolor and pen. Her pictures are characterized by bright colors and a joy of storytelling, and in them she works with the line between drama and humor, the magnificent and the mundane. Tinna has held both solo and group exhibitions, including at Gallerí Fold, Þurrkverið in Suðureyri, and Gunnarshús at Skriðuklaustur. She also collaborates with several authors on illustrations, and her artwork appears on the cover of a recent sheet music book by composer Þórunn Guðmundsdóttir. Her works and portfolio can be found on her website www.tinna.website and on instagram @tinna.illustration
