Music Workshop | Would you like to learn to play the electronic instrument theremin?

Saturday November 22nd 2025

Want to create magnificent, beautiful, and cosmic sounds just by moving your hands through the air? Join us for a hands-on workshop with one of the world’s leading theremin players and composers, Hekla Magnúsdóttir

The theremin is a unique electronic instrument that responds to hand movement in a radio field—like plucking an invisible harp. Participants will explore colorful graphic music notation and learn to play the theremin – a beautiful and accessible instrument known for its unusual sound and elegant, dance-like performance.

In the first part of the workshop, participants will draw their own music notation and exchange drawings with others. Later, they’ll get hands-on experience with the theremin through playful exercises – and even try playing each other’s musical creations!

This workshop is open to all age groups, including a special session for children under 13. Children under age 8 are welcome to attend with a parent or grown-up.

Participants can choose one of the following spots to attend:

  • 1:30–2:15 PM – 4 seats available: children under age 13 especially welcome
  • 2:30–3:15 PM – 4 seats: open to all
  • 3:30–4:15 PM – 4 seats: open to all
