Open call 2022-23 (now closed)

After a successful first year with two residencies exploring the themes of belonging and safe spaces, we are back with a new call out and theme: TOGETHER. We are happy to announce the winning application and look forward to working together on this beautiful proposal:

Every word was once a medicine | Camila Rápalo and Elisabeth Nienhuis

The project was chosen for its experimental and innovative aspect in connecting the community around a common collaborative build.

The selection process was long. A special committee ranked the applications according to the following criteria: relation to the theme TOGETHER and its inspirational text, feasibility and site specificity of the project, the participative and inclusive aspect of the project and finally the added innovative value to the library as a social space. The committee this year consisted of Kolfinna Kristínardóttir, Arnar Sigurðsson and Vigdís Jakobsdóttir. After their conclusion, two top proposals were invited to an interview about the projects to deepen our understanding of them and one of them was chosen after this.

TOGETHER
We need to connect with others for our own well being. Connecting with others counters feelings of loneliness that many of us experience in our everyday lives. By doing things together we can develop a greater compassion and an understanding of how we differ in our ideas on life and the ways we want to live it. There is no need to be afraid of differences. If we have the possibility to connect with others, democratic discussions can take place and we gain a better feeling for the society we live in. What kind of new habits and rituals would get us doing more things together in a way that connects us to the local community – get us to be together anew?
