Let's chat and play games in Icelandic

Wednesday May 11th 2022

Join us for this free Icelandic practice meet-up and get to know other people who are learning too! Those regular meet-ups are for anyone who wants to practice their Icelandic speaking skills in a friendly and relaxed environment. We chat, play different word games, solve crosswords, and have fun together!

We have games for all levels and teachers to help anybody in need or suggest new games to play so don't be afraid to join even if you just started learning Icelandic!

This Wednesday we have a special guest, Karítas Hrund Pálsdóttir, an author of two books for Icelandic language learners: Árstíðir – Sögur á einföldu máli (2020) og Dagatal – Sögur á einföldu máli (2022) which will be out at the end of May. Dagatal is an independent sequel of Árstíðir which has been well received and taught at various education levels in Iceland and abroad. The books consist of 91–101 short and accessible stories about customs and traditions in Iceland. The stories are written especially for readers with Icelandic as a second language. They therefore support both linguistic- and cultural literacy.

Karítas Hrund will read from her books

Our host for Chat and Play in Gerðuberg is Sigurður Hermannsson, a passionate linguist, polyglot, and Icelandic teacher. Sigurður (or Siggi for ease of pronunciation) wants everybody to have access to the tools they need to learn Icelandic, so he founded and runs icelandicmadeeasier.com, a website where you can find articles on all things Icelandic. When not teaching Icelandic at the library or to private students in his home, Siggi works as a volunteer building an Icelandic dictionary at wordreference.com.
