Exhibition | Figurative Landscape
Painter Karen Björg Jóhannsdóttir has always been fascinated by landscape paintings. They often show nature at its grandest, vast landscapes are on show. In her own works, Karen Björg underlines bright and radiant colours, which lead the way in the creative procedure, the paintbrush marks have a strong flow and the final result is never decided beforehand. The creation itself is a kind of journey.
Karen says: "The spectrum of the landscape should not be decided from what we see with our own eyes; the ultramundane is so powerful in all it's colours and being. The memory of everything that has been and the feeling about whatever will become, is all around us, always. You can feel this for instance in the breeze or even underground. The manifestation of the humane in the landscape is inevitable."
Karen Björg Jóhannsdóttir lives in Reykjavík. She has a diploma in painting from The Reykjavík School of Visual Arts from 2018. She has participated in group exhibitions in Reykjavík and has had a few solo exhibitions as well. In her paintings, Karen often dwells on the limits of the figurative and the abstract, and her love of colours is obvious.
