Toddlertalks | The importance of language development and reading for young children

Thursday February 23rd 2023

Þóra Sæunn Úlfarsdóttir, Emilía Rafnsdóttir and Aleksandra Kozimala who work for Miðja máls og læsis will inform parents on how to enrich their childrens language development and the importance of reading for their children. They will also answer questions and any speculations that the parents might have.

Language development is one the fundamental developmental factors of childhood. As much previous research has shown, how well children stand in terms of their language development at the start of schooling influences their ability to learn to read, to comprehend texts and write narratives. Children only have 2000 days to get a good grip on language development from birth until they start school. The importance of language development is therefore enormous. But what can parents do?

Miðja máls og læsis is a consulting team with an emphasis on reinforcing language development (understanding and expression), reading and writing of all children in school. Their main functions is to consult teachers and other staff working in an school enviroment.
