Your Library Card
Reykjavík City Library issues private library cards for individual use only. The cards can be used in all Library branches and in the Seltjarnarnes Library and the Mosfellsbær Library. Library cards are free of charge for senior citizens, people with disabilities and children under 18 years of age. Others pay an annual fee.
Your Password and PIN
When a new library card is i ssued patrons get a PIN number. The number is used in the self service machines, to log in to “My Account” on www.leitir.is, to renew loans, reserve material, and review loan-history.
Check-out periods depend on material; books are checked-out for 30 days, music and movies for 2 weeks, and non fiction films for a week. All library material can be returned to any Reykjavík City Library branch, as well as to the Mosfellsbær Library and Seltjarnarnes Library. Loans can be renewed twice, if noone else orders the item, either at the library, online, or by calling the library.
If library material becomes overdue, a late fee will be charged for each overdue item. An overdue/collection notice is sent out 4 weeks after the due date. Accordingly, parents or guardians are responsible for their children’s loans.
It is to everyone’s benefit that all library material be handled with care. Patrons are financially responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged library material. Accordingly, parents or guardians are responsible for their children’s loans.
