Music materials such as CDs, DVDs, vinyl records, sheet music, music periodicals, etc. are on loan at all branches of the Reykjavík City Library, except for the Sólheimasafn branch. Emphasis is laid on collecting Icelandic music, but music from all over the world is available.
The Music Department of the main library, Aðalsafn, has the largest and most varied collection of music materials with thousands of titles. It is on the fifth floor of Aðalsafn and includes a small room called Kames, which can host music exhibitions or events.
You can, as well, stream music and videos from Naxos Music Libraries.
Movies or video
All branches have a vast variety of audiovisual materials on loan and new titles are purchased regularly. Audiovisual materials include movies, television shows, and documentaries in various languages. Movies intended for children are easily browsable because they are separated from adult materials.
The majority of the video collection is in DVD format, but VHS is stil available if those items are rare or not available on DVD.
Also shelved in the Video Department are books about cinema, filmmaking and famous filmmakers.
There is no charge to check out audiovisual materials, nor any other type of materials.
