Kristbergur Pétursson | Oil paintings
Reykjavik City Library | Gerðuberg Culture House
25 November 2017 - 14 January 2018
In his exhibition new oil paintings and watercolors, specially prepared for the exhibition, will be showcased.
When asked about his work, the artist says that fragments of words and texts have now started to emerge and look beyond the abstract imagery. The works consist of writing and drawing, and have evolved from paperwork to graphic and oil paintings. In his work the artist summarizes two completely different approaches; on the other hand, many rounds of paint and the fastest method of writing.
The textures of his latest works can be described as dark earth colors, as the interior of the image is displayed. His oil works consist of many layers that are often plastered down in his attempt to leave traces of earlier layers.
The artist graduated from the Arts and Crafts School in 1983 and in 1985-1988 he studied at the State Academy in Amsterdam. He has hosted numerous solo shows and participated in joint exhibitions, both at home and abroad.
